Common Causes of Solar Power Damage

Your solar panels may be damaged or destroyed by hail, wind, hurricane-force winds, and lightning. If you have solar panels, it's important to know some of the common causes of damage, so you can avoid them or repair them as necessary.

Hail

Hail is a type of storm that can cause significant damage to solar panels. Hail can damage solar panels by hitting the solar panel directly, or it can drop debris on the panels. This debris causes water to leak into your system.

If your solar panels are damaged by hail, you may need to replace the entire system.

Wind

Tornados

Tornadoes are another risk for damaging solar panels, as they tend to come with strong winds and lots of debris flying around. Your panels could become damaged by flying debris like branches or leaves in addition to being knocked over by the wind itself. If you live near a tornado's path, prepare accordingly so that you aren't left without power during an emergency situation (like when someone needs medical attention).

Hurricane Force Winds

It's important to know even if you aren’t hit directly by a hurricane, hurricane force winds can still cause serious damage to your solar panels. Solar panels are designed to withstand wind speeds up to 80 mph, but they can be damaged by hurricane force winds regardless of whether or not the roof is intact. This is because intense gusts of wind come in from all directions at once and may blow off panels from their mounts or even lift them up off their mounts completely.

If you're worried about how strong a hurricane might be and what kind of effect it would have on your solar panel system, you should check with your insurance company before going ahead with any plans involving removing the panels themselves (such as installing new ones). The most important thing is that whatever happens during an emergency situation—whether it's wind damage or something else like fire—you will still have access to electricity!

Wind Solar panels are designed to withstand strong winds, but they can be damaged by high-speed winds or hurricanes. If your solar panels have been damaged by wind, then you may need to repair them or replace them entirely.

Lightning

Lightning is the most common cause of damaged solar panel systems. Lightning strikes are unpredictable and can happen when you least expect it. They can also cause damage to the solar panels and the wiring inside the panels, as well as other electrical systems in your home.

Lightning may strike when you're at home or away from home, but it's best not to take any chances with this dangerous phenomenon. If your home does get struck by lightning, contact us immediately so that we can help get your system back up and running again!

Debris

Twigs, dust, dirt, and other debris can damage your solar panels through wind or storms, but they can also damage your solar panels by scratching them. It’s best to make sure you clean off your solar panels with a hose and soft cloth once a year at a minimum to keep them in optimal condition.

The tips listed here are some of the most common causes of damaged solar panels. Solar panels require maintenance and care to keep operating properly, so it is important to understand how they work. If you notice any damage to your solar panel system, contact a professional for help immediately.
